Things To Remember

While the Central Texas region has been locked in a drought for years so we never bemoan precipitation, and previous Austin Mega DO events have enjoyed Chamber of Commerce approved weather, it appears that our streak may be coming to a close. The current forecast for next weekend at the time of this writing is calling for decent chances of rain and cool temperatures, with highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s and lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s. This will almost certainly change. The NWS regional forecast office in San Antonio says as much, so we strongly encourage everyone to pay close attention to the forecast as the week progresses and ensure that you bring proper attire given that some of our events are outdoors.

Additionally, United has requested that everyone participating in the event at the airport arrive between 9:45AM and 10:00AM to facilitate check-in and security screening. Everyone participating in our United Airlines event received an e-mail (replete with spelling errors) with reminders of the specific details for this event. If you didn't receive it, please check your spam folders or contact us and we'll get you squared away. We'll reiterate the need to watch the weather forecast for this event as portions of it will involve being outdoors.

For our Evening In The Park event on Friday evening at Zilker Park, the event will happen rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, everything will be moved inside the club house building where there is heat. A reminder that parking is limited at the venue so we encourage ride sharing and car pooling wherever possible. This event is BYOB so please come prepared for that; we'll have a couple of large ice chests stocked with ice to keep things cold. Glass is not allowed to be carried inside the park so cups will be provided for beverages.

We'll be holding a raffle and mini-auction during dinner on Saturday evening at Stiles Switch with the proceeds going to United We Care. We've got a variety of United and Continental branded items that will be available so make sure you get big gobs of raffle tickets in advance. The organizing team will be selling them throughout the weekend all the way up to the start of dinner on Saturday; each ticket is $5 or we'll sell you six for $25. Besides, where else can you get a chance to win a priority boarding carpet so everyone knows how cool you are?

When you arrive for your first event, please find an organizer to get your badge and be checked in for the event as well as the annual sacred tome filled will all the details you need and many you don't. We'll see you in Austin!

Two Weeks Out!

They say time flies when you're impatiently waiting for barbecue and beer. Whether or not that's true, we're only two weeks away from the 2015 Austin Mega DO. To properly prepare you for the experience, here's a few updates and reminders:

Firstly, we're hungry to announce that SLAB BBQ and mmmpanadas food trucks, two Austin originals, will be joining us at the Evening In the Park event on Friday night. Both trucks will accept cash or credit cards and offer a variety of food and beverage options.

Secondly, we've unveiled the list of bars we'll be visiting during the annual Saturday afternoon pub crawl. We'll be returning to Rainey Street but with a nearly brand new list of venues thanks to the ever-changing face of the Rainey Street District. The Events page has the details.

Next, parking at the Zilker Club House for the Evening In The Park event is limited, so we strongly encourage everyone to carpool and secure a designated driver. We also welcome help with setup before and cleanup after the event; if you're inclined to volunteer your time, please find one of the organizers and you'll be rewarded in hugs and lavish praise.

For the Hecklevision at Alamos Drafthouse Ritz event, each participant will receive an Alamo Drafthouse gift card with $12 in value on it for use toward your food and beverage purchase. We are featuring a pre-show that you won't want to miss so please ensure that you arrive promptly between 10:45AM and 11:00AM to allow for processing and getting your gift card to you before the pre-show and movie starts.

Finally, each participant will receive a 2015 Austin Mega DO badge with lanyard that has your first name and handle on it. On the back is a barcode that will be scanned as your entry ticket to each event. As such, please make sure that you bring your badge with you to all of the weekend's events. Not only does it provide social help with matching faces to handles and a unique memento of the weekend, it's the only way to get into each event that you registered for. If you lose your badge or have other issues, find an organizer and we'll get you squared away.

More updates as we make them! Feel free to contact us with any questions.

Reminders & Updates

We hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving with family and friends. For those of you not from the US, we hope you enjoyed your Thursday of no specific importance.

Now that the fervor of registration has passed, we wanted to pass on a few reminders and helpful tips for some of the events. Firstly, did you know that you can look up your existing registration? You'll need your registration number and e-mail address associated to that registration to pull up your details.

Secondly, for those of you who were able to snag a spot for our airport event with United Airlines, we're going to be contacting you via e-mail in late January to collect some additional details. It's critically important that each participant reply to that e-mail with the details requested as government-issued identification is required to access the event. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us and we'll get you sorted. We'll provide additional details in that e-mail for participants.

Finally, for those who enjoy nerdy milestones, registration for the 2015 Austin Mega DO continued with the tradition of selling out primary events at a blistering pace. In less than five minutes, we were sold out of most events and all but two were gone within ten minutes. Work is still being done to finalize a list of venues for the traditional Saturday afternoon pub crawl and we'll provide an update when those details are released. Safe travels to all through the holiday season; let us know if anyone has questions about your registration or other event details.

Registration Ends January 28

A reminder that registration for the 2015 Austin Mega DO ends on January 28, 2015 at 12:00PM Noon Eastern time. While this is not of particular importance to any newcomers since almost everything is sold out, it is of critical importance to everyone who has already registered as this marks the point at which all registrations become non-refundable.

So if your plans have changed and you're no longer able to make it to an event, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can get your spots refunded and clear those who are on waitlists. Thanks!

Registration Now Open

Registration for the 2015 Austin Mega DO is now available! Head over to the signup page to submit your registration and secure your spots for all of the events.

2015 Event Registration Opens Tomorrow !

Registration for the 2015 Austin Mega DO will begin tomorrow, November 19, at 7PM Eastern right here on this very website. How convenient, right?

If you haven't seen the new registration system, we've got a Registration Preview page set up where you can play around with the options and see how it works in the hopes of speeding your ability to get registered and secure your spot for the weekend's events.

We also have an updated Terms of Service which you agree to as part of registration that covers how we collect your personal information and process credit cards. Essentially, we don't give any information to anyone ever and we do not store your credit card details on our server. This is standard functionality on the Internet and we're not doing anything weird because we really don't need that sort of paperwork and overhead in our lives.

If you have questions or need information, feel free to contact us and we'll get you squared away.

Registration Opens November 19!

Many of you have been asking about when registration will open for the 2015 Austin Mega DO. You can scratch, "soon" off your calendar and put the real date:

Registration will open at 7:00PM Eastern on Wednesday, November 19, 2014.

In conjunction with this update, we've also released pricing for each event which you can view on the Events page. If you attend every event (and why wouldn't you?!) your total cost for the weekend will be $212 per person, more than 25% of which is a donation to the two charities we're supporting with the 2015 event. We hope you'll agree that this is a great value for the experience. We're also releasing the Event Map page where you can see an interactive Google map that has pins for all of the official events and some other helpful details like area hotels and bars. We're still working out the Saturday afternoon pub crawl locations so those will be updated as they become available.

As part of the registration process, we're happy to announce that for the first time in Austin Mega DO history, you'll now be able to register two people at once. We recognize that this has been a significant issue for significant others in past years and hope that the complete reconstruction of our registration system alleviates that issue as well a few other lingering issues. The entire system has been designed and tested with those things in mind. Because this system is new in both look and function, we're releasing a Registration Preview so that you can play with the new registration system and see how it works before registration begins.

Make your arrangements to be online at 7PM on November 19 so you can secure your spots for the 2015 Austin Mega DO. If you have questions, feel free to reach out!

Event updates, charity partners, and hotel rooms...oh my!

Several of you have asked what was going on since it's been a while since we provided any updates. Your wait is over:

We're excited to announce that we're partnering with United Airlines to offer an airport experience event at Austin Bergstrom International Airport. The finer details are still being worked on, but we can say that this will be a great event that you don't want to miss. All of the funds raised at this event (and the subsequent raffle and auction) will be donated to the United We Care Employee Relief Fund which is our charity partner for the 2015 Austin Mega DO. Check out the Events Page for more details around that.

On the note of charity raffles and auctions, we welcome any and all donations to the raffle and auction prize pool. Last year we had some unique and wonderful prizes in the raffle and we'd like to top that. The organizing committee has delved into its trove of goodies and we hope to add to the mix.

On the hotel front, the two official DO hotels will be the Sheraton Austin and the Hyatt Regency Austin. The Hyatt has better rates at the moment but you would do well to take a look at properties around the downtown area and see if you can snag a deal. As announced earlier, there will not be an official group block or group rate at any hotel; please feel free to search and make the best booking for your needs. It is our hope that this not only saves everyone some cash but also provides an opportunity to earn those crucial stay credits with the program of your choice early in the qualifying year.

Which leaves us with the final burning question: when will registration open? We're currently targeting mid-November to open registration. We'll have an official announcement on that topic in the next week or so. Our goal, as always, is to give everyone enough notice to plan around the registration opening so you can be sure and secure your sport for all of the events. The most popular events sold out in about six minutes last year and we expect a similar performance this year.

Stay tuned to the website and the forum threads and/or social media outlets for the latest updates.

2015 Event Schedule Now Availalble

As promised, the 2015 Austin Mega DO event schedule is now available! The Events page has all the details.

There are a couple of events that we're still finalizing details on; notably, the first event on Friday and the list of locations we'll visit during the annual Saturday afternoon pub crawl. We're also firming up pricing for each event, but we expect it to be very similar to previous years from a total cost standpoint. We'll provide updates as those details become more solidified.

Additionally, there will not be a group hotel rate for the 2015 event because they're rather expensive and risky from a contract standpoint. Plus you're a savvy world traveler and know how to secure a good hotel rate, right? :) Before registration opens, we'll announce where the official hotel is so that everyone can book at or near the same place.

We're also finalizing sponsorships and our charity partners for 2015. We're fortunate to have the continued support of MilePoint for the 2015 event. More information surrounding the charities we'll be supporting is coming soon.

Currently there is no plan to provide transporation to any event, so please plan accordingly. All events are in the immediate Austin area, but some of them are outside downtown. We encourage car pooling and ride sharing. On the upside, Uber is now available in Austin along with our normal taxi services.

We expect registration to open in late October. You'll see updates here, in our Facebook group, on Twitter, and in the discussion threads at MilePoint and Flyertalk. You can also contact us directly with any questions.

As in previous years, anything and everything is subject to change between now and the time registration opens, but we hope to keep that to a bare minimum. More updates as we make them!

2015 Schedule Release Next Week

While everyone else has been busy dumping ice water on themselves, we've been working on the schedule for the 2015 Austin Mega DO. We thought that it would be a nice way to raise some cash for charity and remain dry at the same time. Upon checking the outdoor temperature in Austin during August, we determined that we may have made a slight miscalculation.

In any event, the schedule will be released next week along with some other fun details. Stay tuned!

2015 Event Announcement

We're excited to announce that the 2015 Austin Mega DO will be held the weekend of Thursday, February 26 through Sunday, March 1, 2015. Mark your calendars and submit those vacation requests: you don't want to miss this one.

As usual at this time of the year, we're not ready to announce a full schedule just yet. Here are a few of the things we do know for sure:

  • There will be beer
  • There will be barbecue
  • There will be live music

Look for additional information to be posted over the coming weeks and months as we get more details ironed out. Once we're ready with the schedule, we'll also open threads in the appropriate forums at Milepoint and Flyertalk for discussions and feedback. In the mean time, feel free to contact us with any questions.
